AN ART COLLECTIVE
INCLUSION IS NOT AN OPTION, IT IS A DUTY
INK! is a collective composed of marginalised people creating marginal art. Our aim is to pool resources and expertise to offer oppressed and suppressed voices an outlet that does not censor nor flatten their message.
We are not a majorly privileged group “open” to diversity and inclusivity as some kind of facultative performance. It is our mandate to seek and to welcome people alienated by social norms, and to create a safe environment that caters specifically to artistic visions and processes that can only originate from those who know what it means to be oppressed.
ART FOR LIBERATION
Art has always been a fundamental force in shaping political currents, from State propaganda to liberation messages. We live in an era where the act of resistance is becoming critical as genocides and fascistic movements are spreading worldwide, and it is our mission as artists to contribute to this resistance by the strength of our trade, using it to teach others, to educate, to create and to maintain community.
ART FOR ARTISTS' SAKE
While our material will undeniably have a political reach, as in that we stand behind liberation and decolonial movements, we are first and foremost a mean of resourcement for artists: it cannot all be about fighting all the time.
We want to create and promote art that engages with the ways, good and bad (though most often both at once), in which marginality and oppression shapes our understanding of ourselves and the world that surrounds us; we want art as the product of this understanding, and as a celebration of the people behind it.
OUR ART
We want to make INK!’s material as broadly available as possible. To that end, all material we publish is copyright-free, and we encourage people to reuse our work in any way that interests them.
Our digital media art is published and distributed for free, and our physical media art pieces are sold as low a cost as possible, for free whenever possible.
All members have access to all the collective’s published material as assets for their own creations, and we encourage our artists to donate their art for free use by others. The ultimate goal is to create an environment where each artist has access to ample resources for their projects without having to worry about copyright issues or permissions.
ABOUT BEING A MEMBER
Being a member is free! And you get access to our assets and to a community of fellow artists who will be happy to provide their knowledge and skills to help you improve your craft. Conversely, as a member, you get to contribute your art and your expertise to other people’s projects as you wish.
Members are unremunerated, and are unlikely to be until far in the future when profit becomes even remotely a possibility for INK! However, while it doesn’t replace income, you can count on us for the publication, distribution and promotion of your art.
